My First Time

I'm so happy! For the first time, I won in an on-line page layout contest sponsored by a local scrapbooking store. I have had several wins in international contests (3 at ScrapWords, 2 at A Peek into Yesterday, 1 at Sisterhood of Scrap) but none in any local contests.

Last Saturday the winners of My Little Attic's KI Memories Pop Culture Challenge were announced during the Scrapbooks Exchange EB at Nette's residence in Ayala Alabang. I was the grand winner of her Challenge #1 - create a LO using at least two patterned papers and at least one embellishment of KI Memories Pop Culture line. My winning LO was that of my daughter Dannah's entitled "An Artist's Delight" (see my February 14 blog entry).

My prize? 1500 pesos worth of scrapbooking supplies of my choice from Ms. Nette Madero. Thanks Nette for being so generous! I really loved my prizes. Want to have a peek of my prizes? Here they are:

My prize consisted of the folowing: KI Memories Love Elsie Zoe patterned papers and cardstock stickers; KI Memories Pop Culture pp, softies, borderline stickers; KI Memories Lace papers; and Inque Boutique Narrative Elements.

From some of my prizes and purchases during the EB, I have made this page for our 13th Wedding Anniversary which we are celebrating this day. Here is my LO entitled 13 Years:

Happy Birthday Danny!

Yesterday was my husband Danny's 38th Birthday and as a tribute to him I am posting some of the LO's I created for him last year.

Here they are:

For this LO, I used 6 different patterned papaers from Provo Craft, DCWV and Around the Block, metal embellishments (photo corner, grommets and brads), Provo Craft Etcetera alphabet chipboards, 3bugsinarug chitchat stickers, tags, ricrac, ribbons, glitter glue and fibers.

Here is my journaling (handwritten using a black glitter pen, two pages):
Because of us...
...you endured almost 10 years of being away from us, your family just to give us a brighter future
...you put up with the extreme heat and cold of the Saudi Arabian desert
...you missed celebrating birthdays, Christmases, New Years, anniversaries, graduations and recognitions days with us
...you took pain in attending to your own personal needs especially when you were sick
...you allowed yourself to abstain from pork (which is your favorite) to eat beef, chicken and fish, beef, chicken and fish, prepared with not much variation)
...with bore up with not so pleasing personalities and sometimes discriminating ones
...you withstood a culture very different from ours
FOR ALL THESE AND MORE, JIGS, DANNAH AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS.

The photos on the LO were taken around 1999 during Danny's stint in Saudi Arabia as an Overseas Contract Worker. The place according to him was were Noah's Ark passed through. It was a sea that dried up according to the people there. He worked there for almost ten years with only 1 1/2 to 2 months vacation each year. But now he's back for good and starting a drugstore business.

The journaling is in a form of a letter and here goes:

My dearest Danny,

My heart was broken when you left for Saudi Arabia. I thought I couldn't make it without you. Oh how I missed you so much! Good thing there was always the constant reminder that SOMEDAY "time will come when we'd all be together again, all four of us living a better life" encouraged me to just go on. This reminder was always reflected in our letters. After almost ten years, that SOMEDAY finally came. Now we are together - Jigs, Dannah, you and myself, never to be apart again. Thank God that particular SOMEDAY in our lives was realized. Thank you, too for keeping your promise.

Love, Timi

This is the LO that gave me the title "Sister of the Week" at sisterhoodofscrap.
blogspot.com for Week 22. The challenge was to use flowers in a masculine LO. The title of the LO is SOMEBODY, a song in the 1980's by Depeche Mode. The lyrics of the song is written all over the circles.

For this LO, I used DCWV and K and Company patterned papers, DCVW and Bazzill cardstocks, ribbons, metal flower, brad, Prima flower and silk flowers, K and Co stickers, Paper Pizazz alphabets (for the title), emboidery floss.

Journaling reads (hidden beneath he title, printed on a tag):

Being away for almost 10 years, Danny hadn't got the chance to go up the stage during our kids' Recognition Day in school. There were times when I envy other parents since one of them goes up the stage with their kids while the other one is behind the camera. But this school year (2006-2007) was quite different from the rest because Danny was here (for good!) . He was the one who accompanied Jigs (Grade 5) and Dannah (Grade 3) on stage to receive their awards. And me? I was behind the scene capturing the moment with my camera. I'm sure Danny is as PROUD as I am knowing that our kids did well in school and his hard-earned money did not go to waste, with Jigs being in the Top 5 of his class and Dannah receiving 7 medals including the 2nd highest honors in her class. - I could talk to her about anything and everything anytime.
- She was there during one of the darkest moments in my life.
- She always wants the best for me.
- I know she also loves sharing this friendship with me.

I'm back!

After more than a month of hibernation, I am finally back! Thanks to Issa for making "kulit". Everytime we had a chance to see each other or talk on the phone, she never got tired of asking me, "Nagscrap ka na ba?" and "Nakapag-blog ka na?", maski sa text ganun din. So finally I got to scrap three LO's on the first month of 2008. I am sharing two of them, my entries to Rekindled Moments' Scenic Route December Challenge. I e-mailed my entries to Jane yesterday, a day before the deadline. Both LO's had my son Jigs as subject. I just realized that most of the LO's I made last year (60+, that is) were for my daughter, Dannah. I only made 11 for Jigs. So this year, I vowed to create more LO's for him. So glad I've already started by making these two LO's!

Here is my Entry # 1 entitled Life is Good just like Spaghetti:

Materials used:Ashville pp's -Paton Ave., South Market St., Orange St.; Sumner Diecut arrows, Ashville Diecut Journaling shapes, DCWV cardstock, DCWV letter stickers, DMC thread, ribbons, fibers, metal charms (spoon and fork), Reeves glitter glue, buttons, 3-D stickers, Bic Skater pen

Journaling: I love pasta! And my favorite is SPAGHETTI. Be it from Jollibee or from Nanay's kitchen, I simply adore this delicious dish! I love it especially when my Mama cooks it for me. In all the joy it gives to me, I can say that...Life is good just like spaghetti!
Jigs @ 10 years old - April 22, 2005 - Bean Hub, Vega Center, LB, Laguna

And my Entry # 2 with the title Photo Op:

Materials used: Sumner pp's -Scrap Strip #3, Ryan Ave., Cherry Ave and Boney Ave; Sumner Die cut arrows; Life is Good Chipboard Circles; DCWV cardstock, ribbons, ricrac, book plate, brads, blings, buttons, fibers, staple wire, K and Company tags-to-go, MM index tab combo stickers, MM Noteworty journaling pad, MM clip, DMC thread, Bic Skater pen

Journaling: This page is not about donuts although Jigs is a certified donut-lover. It is about this rare photo opportunity when Jigs willingly posed and had his photos taken. Very rare indeed! By the time he turned 10 years old, I have been having a hard time convincing him to pose for a photo. So I was surprised when he, without my instructions and with two donuts on his hands did these poses. I was thinking, has this something to do with those donuts? Maybe... So this page is about donuts after all. Jigs - September 2006 - 11 years old

So glad to be back!
