Round 2: Scappers Haven's Iron Chef IV

For Round 2 of Scrappers Haven's Iron Chef IV, the contestants were asked to showcase the following menu ingredients: paint, stickers and stitching. We have to come up with one altered item, one LO and one card for every round.

Here are my submissions:

Layout - Late Bloomer

Materials used: Cardstock (brown and yellow), Bo Bunny Tuscany patterned papers, DMC and Anchor thread, acrylic paint, stickers (Provo Craft alpha stickers, 3d stickers), MM journaling pad

How the menu items were used:
Paint: I used a cardboard tube as a stamp. It's rounded end became the design of the brown cardstock; paint was also used in the alpha stickers in the title and on the edge of the photo

When it comes to lovelife, I was also a late bloomer. I had my first boyfriend when I was 18 years old. I only had two boyfriends, the second one became my husband.
It was only two years ago when I tried my hand with the internet. Before that, I didn't have an email account. You won't expect me to stay on the computer for long. Now, I am a certified blogger and internet surfer. I am a late bloomer, yes but I'm glad I bloomed.

Altered Item - Cork Board

I bought this corkboard at 88 Store.

Materials used: MM Acrylic paint, patterned papers, Anchor thread, Provo Craft alpha stickers, flower and insects stickers, Basic Grey alpha chipboard (TIMI'S), ribbons, lace, trimmings, ricrac, bling, buttons

How the menu items were used:

Paint: used to paint the wood and the letters (TIMI'S CORNER)
Stickers: alpha stickers used as part of the title, flower and insect stickers used to decorate the cork board
Stitching: used on the edges of the patterned papers

Card - Mom

Materials used: patterned paper: Sassafrass Lass and Basic Grey, DCWV cardstock, DMC and Anchor thread, 3D stickers (Hibiscus flowers), MM acrylic paint, bling, Fancy pants Bella Brush stamp, Versafine Ink, Scrapworks fabric alpha tabs, bling

Stitches used: running and V stitch
Stickers: Hibiscus flowers
Paint: Background of the green cardstock. A mesh was used to stamp the image using paint

Just this morning the results for Round 2 were announced. I was so happy to learn that I topped my group (Group C) and I was the overall third placer. We were 16 in this round.

I am also so proud to be their May Guest Designer. I will be receiving a guest design kit, retail value $30.00 CDN, plus free shipping and 25% off anything I would like to order in the store!

As a Guest Design Team Member, I am expected to complete 3 layouts and an altered item with the kit using different techniques and also to write a small technique article for our newsletter.

I feel so lucky!

Some Layouts for Scrapwords

For the second half of April I have created a total of 6 LO's for Scrapwords' various challenges:

Layout #1 - Wordsmith Selena's Sketch #2 Challenge:

Materials used: 2 different patterned papers: Fancy Pants (Floral Chic) and Prima Oddesey Collection (Lisbon), cardstock (red and lavender), paper (light lavender), Cloud 9 alpha stickers (AUTHENTIC), Craft Express Alpha chipboards (SMILE), Alpha rubons, Prima flowers, lace and trimmings, bling, acrylic paint, fiber, glossy accents, glitter glue, Versafine ink (black), Inque boutique rubber stamp, brad

Techniques used: Stamping (journaling block), stitching, distressing, hidden journaling

Journaling (beneath the photo):

One day while I was loooking at our photos, I noticed that Dannah and I smiled differently. When I smile, my teeth are revealed while Dannah smiles with her lips together, not exposing her teeth (see photo a). Just for fun, we tried taking photos of ourselves, "borrowing each other's smiles". Dannah smiled with her teeth exposed while I smiled with my lips together. First try? Not that authentic (see photo b). But our second try (see photo c) proved to be authentic! Another moment to remember between Dannah and me. March 29, 2008 - ACC, Mayapa, Calamba City

April EB

Yesterday I attended the monthly EB of Scrapbooks-Exchange at the Call Center Academy, PDAF Building, Makati City. This month's EB was sponsored by Scrapbukan. There were only a few of us who attended (Liza B., Liza G., Mel, Beth, Jeannie, Cookie and myself plus others who dropped by like Tin, Babette, Tita Marian and Lee).People speculated that most scrapper-members are saving their entry for the next month's Scrapfest.

All of us except for Cookie who came in the afternoon were able to scrap. Jeannie, Liza G., Beth and myself were able to finish one LO which we entered in the day's challenge. Mel was able to finish two LO's and started another one. Liza B. was able to make 3 artist's trading cards. Weren't we productive? Of course not to be outdone was the shopping! Each of us brought home some stash we bought from Scrapbukan's new arrivals and sale items.

Here is the LO I made:

Thanks to Scrapbukan for providing 2 patterned papers!

Details of my LO...

My sunflower design...

Good news! My LO above won in the challenge. I received some Jenni Bowlin pp's, a Basic Grey rub-ons and Daisy D's rub-ons as my prize:

Journaling: Even the littlest of things make me berry happy just like the Strawberry Shortcake collection I share with my daughter, Dannah. As a child, I was already fond of Strawberry Shortcake, seeing the cute figurines my Tita Brenda had back then. I told myself one day when I am already capable, I will buy all the Strawberry Shortcake stuff that will suit my fancy. I was berry happy when that time came last 2005 when I started collecting Strawberry Shortcake stuff, from bags to wallets to pillows, notebooks, stickers and more. We are able to acquire a DVD of Strawberry Shortcake which Dannah and I love to watch together. We even sing the theme song together. Surely, Strawberry Shortcake is one of the little things that make me berry happy. March 22, 2008.

Memory Trigger Challenge:

Materials used: Fancy Pants (Sweet Pea -Abigail), DCWV cardstock, Provo Craft plain paper, Craft Express Alpha Chipboard, Provo Craft Alpha Stickers, Acrylic paint, Inkessentials Glossy Accents, prima flowers, blings, buttons, DMC thread

Journaling: These photos remind me of the bonding moments I had with my daughter, Dannah when she joined my Crop Science 1 field trip to Baguio and Pangasinan last February 23-25, 2008.

We had so much fun together shopping for pasalubong, strolling, taking each other's pictures and of course eating out. We even bought similar bonnets which we wore while we were in Baguio.

I know there will be more moments like these ahead of us. I hope and pray that when you grow up, you'll not forget to spend some time with me and we'll always have our share of bonding moments.

Thanks for looking!

My LO's at A Peek Into Yesterday

I'm so happy I won in the recent contest at A Peek Into Yesterday (APIY), Nothing but Paper. Their site was down for several days and the announcement of winner for this particular contest was postponed for another week. I was surprised to receive a text message from Chiqui Gutierrez congratulating me on my win. Here is my LO:

Materials used: DCWV and Bazzill cardstock, Scenic Route Paper Co (Ashville), Creative Imagination Alpha Stickers, Colorbox Fluid Chalk Ink, Unipin Pen, Fancy Pants Bella Brush Clear Stamps, Tsukineko Versafine Ink

Journaling: July 30, 2006 - For one night, I was able to experience "living a suite life". I was so lucky to have won in the first ever Speed Scrappin' sponsored by Filstar. Part of my prize was a gift certificate worth PhP2000 with food and drinks entitlement at Discovery Suites, Ortigas, Psig City. I was with my friend, Weng.

For my prize, I have a $25 GC to spend at APIY. This is my third $25 GC from Peek. My winning LO is also displayed the homepage of APIY for a week.

Here is another LO made for an earlier contest at APIY. The contest's theme is "Because of Scrapbooking". Here is my take on this challenge which didn't win but I'm glad I was able to make this page:

The journaling is done on strips of DCWV cardstock and is handwritten. I made an envelope where my journaling strips may be found. Here are the things I learned/did/accomplished because of scrapbooking in no particular order:

I discovered my artistic side.
I revived my journal-writing.
I gained confidence in joining contests, on-line or on-the-spot.
I was a SCRAPBBOOK in one Halloween Party I attended.
I became a Guest Designer of some on-line stores.
I became a certified LB (Los Banos) Scrapaholic.
I have my own SCRAP AREA in the house.
I won a trip to Hongkong.
I learned blogging and internet surfing.
I gained friends who share the same passion as mine.
I got used to carrying BIG BAGS containing my stuff.
I was able to preserve wonderful memories of those I love.
I bought scrapbooking supplies with my clothing allowance.
I realized just how precious my hands are.

Two more LO's for their challenge this week using Becky Fleck's sketches:

The first LO was originally intended for the Round Robin Challenge initiated by Christine Villacarlos. Here it is:

And here is the sketch where the LO was based:

And the sketch:

I am not eligible to win in this week's contest at Peek but no regrets about it. At least I have one more addition to Dannah's album!

Thanks for looking...
