I'd like to share my entry to SM Idol 3 Week 4 which asked us, contestants to do the following:
#1 Use the word, "PLAY" to inspire you on your layouts.
It does not have to be your title or even part of your journaling.
Use the word to inspire you on your theme.
#2 “PLAY” with your patterned papers and embellishments!
Alter AT LEAST one of the patterned papers you are going to use on your layout.
How do you alter? You can punch holes, you can doodle on it, spray glimmer mist, paint it, make it look entirely different! Something that we wouldn't recognize the paper you have used.
Alter AT LEAST one kind of embellishment you are going to use on your layout.
How? Add brads or blings on your buttons, or apply rub-on on your ribbons, punch shapes on your chipboard etc.
#3 We want to see photos AT PLAY, not necessarily kids playing. You can scrap about you and your hubby at play! Be imaginative when you PLAY.
#4 Use any (or all if you wish) of these colors:
- Yellow
- Orange
- Teal
My take:
How I altered my patterned papers:
How I altered the Prima felt embellishment:
Description of my LO:
For the photos, I chose ones that showed the LB Scrapaholics "at play in front of the camera". These were taken during our annual Easter Egg Hunting last April 2009. While our kids were busy playing, we didn't let the chance pass and played, too. What better way to play but to have our photos taken while having fun with our different poses. I incorporated 4 photos on my LO to showcase our different poses in front of the camera.
As for the papers, I altered two patterned papers (Fancy Pants and Pink Paislee). For the Fancy Pants pp, I stamped the border of the paper with yellow acrylic paint using a mesh, after which I painted with crackle paint. When the paints dried up, I distressed the portion with paint using a nail file. For the Pink Paislee pp, I did some masking (I placed swirl chipboards on two sides of the paper, opposite each other then used blowpens to achieve a misting effect.), stamping (flowers using bronze ink, swirls using orange ink and the border using black ink), doodling ( see the bigger stamped flower), and addition of glitter glue to the flower center.
As for the embellishment, I painted the all black Prima felt with different colors, green for the leaves, yellow for the flowers (also added some glitter glue), blue for the bird and brown for the branches.
I chose to use all the three colors required. These colors may be seen in the papers and embellishments used.
Materials used: Patterned papers - Fancy Pants, Pink Paislee, Cosmo Cricket and Provo Craft; cardstock - Bazzill; alphabets - My Little Shoebox, American Crafts Puffy Thickers, Heidi Swapp chipboards; Prima felt and flowers (teal and green), Imaginsce Tiger lily flower (yellow), Petaloo flower (orange), metal conchos, AAS pearl, trim, lace, mesh, blings, DMC thread, medium used - acrlylic paint (Making Memories), inks (colorbox, versafine), diamond glaze, blowpens, crackle paint, glitter glue
Journaling: When big girls play (title)... it spells FUN and SILLINESS! Laughter is all over the place. It feels like they're in their teens again. It means forgetting about their blues. April 2009, Humanties, UPLB.
Luckily, I made it to the next round together with these fab ladies:
Next I'd like to share my DT layouts for Dotty Divas and Pile it on.

SM Idol Week 3 plus my PIO layout
I made it to Week 4 of the Scrappin' Mom's Idol Season 3 contest together with these great ladies:
Here's my entry for the Week 3 to use white space and eight photos with the theme celebrating everyday moments:
Details of my LO:
To achieve white space, I concentrated my photos, embellishments and journaling on the right side of the layout, arranged the eight (8) photos from top to middle of the LO. To make the design assymetrically balanced I incorporated some embellishments on the top left side of the LO. As for the theme, I chose the item "what makes you happy" on the list and looked for 8 items that make me happy, also from the list.
Journaling:
Exposed - a listing of my natural highs
1. sunrise
2. flowers in bloom
3. favorite pasta
4. a leafless tree
5. favorite treat
6. feet on sand
7. fine work of art
8. clouds
Hidden - hidden beneath the photos
There are certain things that give me the natural high like (1) seeing the sunrise by the sea (Hundred Islands), (2) flowers in bloom in all its slendor (Baguio City), (3) my favorite pasta (Joe's Pasta, LB, Laguna), (4) a leafless tree in all its majesty (Hundred Islands), (5) a favorite treat just like these colorful cupcakes, pleasing to the eyes as well as to the tastebuds (Dannah's 12th birthday), (6) my feet on the sand (Hundred Islands), (7) a fine work of art like this glass mosaic (Naga Cathedral), (8) clouds in the sky and being close to it (Zest-air to Naga from Manila).
Materials used: patterned papers - October Afternoon, My Little Shoebox and Fancy Pants, alpha stickers: My Little Shoebox and All About Scrapbooking, journaling cards - October Afternoon (makes me happy and numbers) and MME Bohemian, flowers - Prima and All About Scrapbooking (felt), American Crafts Thickers (puffy), Maya road chipboard bird, artificial leaves, paper and crocheted doilies, lace and trims, button, All About Scrapbooking pearl conchos, blings, blowpens, inks, glitter glue, DMC threads, tulle, staple wires, MM acrylic paint
And now for my DT work at Pile it on:
This week's challenge is to use mostly orange in your layout, card or altered item. I'm combining this challenge with Coordinates Collection July Scrap Challenges for Week 3 and A Peek Into Yesterday's July PDT Challenges Week 1.
BTW, I'd like to announce that my friend Issa Lucido made it top the top three scoops for her LO Why for last week's sketch challenge. Congrats, Issa!
And one more thing, please drop by the Dotty Divas blog for a teaser of the first ad challenge this coming week.

SM Idol Week 2
I made it to Week 2 of the Scrappin' Moms Idol Search. The challenge is called Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. Here are the requirements:
Reduce - Create a layout using limited supplies. Use only 1 cardstock and 1 patterned paper for your design.
Reuse - Use an item more than once on your layout. This has to be the exact same item, i.e. use the same button 2 ways -- as embellishment and as a stamp
Recycle - Recycle or re-purpose a scrapbooking item on your layouts. Example of scrapbooking materials includes, but it not limited to, packaging of scrapbooking items.
And here is my take:
Some details:
How I applied the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle requirement in my design:
REDUCE - I used one Bazzill cardstock as base of my LO, matting of the photo and journaling strips. This was made possible by cutting the middle portion of the cardstock. I also used one Inque Boutique patterned paper (both sides).
REUSE - I reused the abaca mesh - as embellishment and as a stamp. I used it to stamp around the border of the cardstock and photo mat with brown ink.
RECYCLE - I recycled part of the packaging of Fancy Pants School Days Box Set (scallop with holes and used it as border.
Materials used: Bazzill cardstock, Inque Boutique patterned paper, American Crafts thickers, Jenni Bowlin Bingo Card (ADORE) and ticket, Prima Say it in Crystals and flowers, Others: fabric, paper and rubber foam flowers, artificial leaves, lace, abaca mesh, pearls and blings, DMC thread, distress ink, Versafine ink, Uniball pen, glitter glue
Techniques: distressing by inking the edges, tearing and crumpling the paper then inking the creases, hand stitching, stamping using abaca mesh
Journaling: Nothing is so sweet than seeing you dressed this way at the tender age of three. You were so young and innocent yet you exude the grace and beauty of a true princess.
Here are the ladies who made it to Week 3 and that includes me:

I made it to the Pile it On DT
I made it to the Pile it on DT. You may view the announcement here as well as my sample for this week's challenge to use at least three embellishments.
Here's my LO for this week's challenge:
Since I need to pile it on, I combined this challenge with Coordinates Collection July Scrap challenges to scrap about a water-related LO using circles, fibers and water-related embellishment (I did paper piecing and came up with a boat.) and also with Butterfly Crafts to design a travel inspired LO.
These photos were taken during our travel to Baguio last February 2009.
By the way, I can already post this blinkie in my blog:
Thanks for looking and I hope to see you in the Pile it on challenge blog!
